Fostering and Adoption Assessments
As a qualified animal behaviourist, I’m pleased to offer a new service specifically for Local Authorities and Foster/Adoption Agencies: dog behaviour assessments to help determine the suitability of a dog within a fostering or adoptive household.
These assessments provide an objective evaluation of the dog’s temperament, behaviour, and interactions within the home environment. This can be a vital part of ensuring the safety and wellbeing of both the dog and the children in their care — and is increasingly required as part of risk assessment and safeguarding protocols.
If your agency needs a dog assessment for a prospective foster family, I’d be happy to help.
What is involved?
-
Step 1: Tell me about your requirements
Contact me using the form below, telling me a bit about your requirements. I will get back to you as soon a I can (usually within 48 hours but hopefully even sooner) to answer any questions you may have and to send the booking details.
-
Step 2: Information Gathering
Before the assessment date, I will send a link to an online pre-assessment questionnaire. This gathers essential background information about the applicant and their dog(s) to help tailor and streamline the assessment.
-
Step 3: Assessment
This really isn’t as scary as it sounds! I visit the applicants address and observe the dog(s) in their home and surrounding environment. I will initiate a number of situations to observe how the dog(s) reacts and how the owner manages them.
-
Step 4: Report
The final report provides a detailed, professional summary of the assessment findings regarding any potential risks the dog may pose or any likely compromise to the dog’s welfare. I also outline any management recommendations.
Take the first step by completing the form at the bottom of this page.
Investment: from £490
Insurance Assessments start at £490 for one dog. There are additional charges for multi-dog households and for travel beyond my normal working area.
